Recovery protection has an important job: keeping pets from licking, biting or scratching an injury while they heal. But that doesn’t mean recovery has to be uncomfortable.

That’s why we were so happy to see The Original Comfy Cone® named the #1 Top Pick and “Best Flexible Cone” by Pet Science Review in its 2026 guide to dog recovery cones and alternatives. Read Article Here

Pet Science Review evaluated recovery options based on factors including safety, appropriate use, value and product design. The Comfy Cone received a 4.3 out of 5 rating and was highlighted as an option for dogs who still need the protection of a full cone around injuries involving the face, ears, paws or body.

For us, that recognition gets right to the heart of why The Comfy Cone was created.

Protection and Comfort Can Work Together

Traditional rigid plastic cones can certainly provide an effective barrier, but they can also make everyday activities like sleeping, navigating furniture and simply getting comfortable more difficult.

The Comfy Cone was designed to provide the protective shape of an e-collar while using soft, foam-backed padded nylon instead of hard plastic.

Its removable stays allow pet parents to adjust the amount of structure depending on the pet and the location of the injury, while the padded material flexes when pets rest or move around their environment.

The goal isn’t simply to make a cone softer.

The goal is to keep the pet from reaching the area that needs to heal while making the recovery period as comfortable and manageable as possible.

The Right Recovery Protection Matters

Pet Science Review also makes an important point in its guide: not every recovery product works for every injury.

Inflatable collars and recovery suits may be appropriate in certain situations, while injuries involving paws, legs, ears, eyes or other easily reached areas may require the fuller protection of a cone.

Whatever recovery aid you’re using, your pet should not be able to reach the area you’re trying to protect.

Watch your pet standing, sitting, lying down and curling up. Pets can be surprisingly creative when they’re determined to investigate an incision or itchy spot!

And always follow your veterinarian’s instructions for your pet’s particular procedure or injury.

Helping Pets Heal in Comfort

The Comfy Cone was created because we believed pets deserved an alternative to the rigid plastic cone — one that could provide protection without adding unnecessary discomfort to an already difficult time.

Nearly two decades later, that remains our mission.

We’re honored that Pet Science Review recognized The Comfy Cone as its top pick, and even more grateful to the veterinarians and pet parents who continue to trust it when their animals need a little extra protection while they heal.

Because recovery isn’t just about protecting the wound. It’s about caring for the whole pet.
